In the May 2017 issue of our newsletter we asked whether any of our members operating on school premises had been experiencing schools attempting to take over their clubs by refusing to renew leases and then setting up their own wraparound clubs instead. We feared that this would be a likely consequence of the budget cuts that many schools are facing. And we were inundated with replies!
For most schools this is a purely pragmatic solution to a desperate funding situation, but for private providers it is depriving them of not only a business that they may have worked for many years to build up, but also their livelihood. Unfortunately, most clubs are pretty much at the mercy of schools that decide to do this, however we do have some suggestions for strategies that you can try in order to protect your business.
