When the Statutory Framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage was revised in 2014 it removed the requirement for the managers or staff in out of school clubs to have specific childcare or playwork qualifications (unless you take children younger than reception age).
Whilst in principle this should make it easier for out of school clubs to find staff, it does create other problems. The fact that specific qualifications are no longer required doesn’t mean that you don’t need to worry about qualifications and training at all. If you are hoping to be graded ‘good’ or ‘outstanding’ by Ofsted, and you employ staff without specific childcare or playwork qualifications, you will have to work a little harder to demonstrate that your staff are suitable and appropriately deployed.
