Play Manager (32 hours per week)

Ecclesall Kids Club take pride in delivering high quality care for children, we are well established, operating successfully for over 20 years, with a “good” Ofsted rating. We have recently been through a modernisation process, merging our infant and junior clubs into a large one site Primary provision catering for ages 4-11. We have a website and automated booking/payment system, we have created a new Play Manager post (32 hours a week) to take our play provision to the next level. We are a not for profit organisation led by a Voluntary Management Committee.

Our ideal candidate will need to be an experienced people manager and be enthusiastic, motivated and committed to providing an outstanding level of service. They will need to demonstrate they have the experience, vision and skills to help to modernise our play setting and expand our offer. They will work seamlessly with our part time Business and HR Manager to help make our future club the best it can be. The Play Manager will be supported by 3 qualified and experienced Play Supervisors and a team of qualified, unqualified and supply Play Workers.

Our candidate will need to be experienced, professional, well organised and demonstrate effective communication skills. They will be a role model for our staff and children. They will need the ability to use good judgement, common sense, prioritise and make competent decisions. They will need to be customer focused and able to deal with challenging situations when they arise.

Qualifications and Experience

Desirable - Degree, NVQ level 4/5 in a relevant subject eg child development, playwork, childcare/nursery management with a solid base of experience in out of school or childcare settings.

Essential – Minimum NVQ level 3 in playwork or childcare/ teaching related discipline along with substantial experience and a proven track record in management.

All candidates must have a valid Paediatric First Aid and Food Hygiene qualification, or be willing to undertake these qualifications soon after starting with us. We would also expect the successful candidate to have understanding and knowledge of current safeguarding requirements including the Designated Safeguarding Lead role.

All candidates must have a thorough understanding and experience of Safeguarding, the EYFS framework, equal opportunities and Special Educational Needs.

Hours of work and pay rate:

The rate of pay is £15.22 per hour, weekly hours 32 hours per week term time. You will be working 25 hours in club and the other 7 hours each week will be for planning and meetings. Additional paid time is supported for training and development and for additional work when needed eg attendance at Sheffield Safeguarding Board Early Years Seminars. There will be some non term time working to support our holiday clubs but this is shared with other qualified and experienced staff.

The opening hours of the club are 7.30am – 9am breakfast Club and 2.45pm - 6.15 pm after school.

Purpose of the post:

  • To manage, lead and support the work of the team of Play Supervisors and take our existing provision to the next level. Making it both fun and safe.
  • To provide high quality, safe play opportunities for the children in your care.
  • To provide strong leadership and lead the day to day management of the setting and staff supervision. Improving our practice and driving change alongside our Business and HR Manager
  • To provide high quality, flexible childcare for families.
  • To assist in delivery of the Management Committees aims and objectives and support the development of their Strategic Action Plan.
  • To comply with statutory requirements where they apply including Ofsted, EYFS and Health and Safety Executive.
  • To be an exemplar for Safeguarding and Health and Safety in our setting.
